Scott Robert Lim is an on-location portrait specialist and cinematic wedding photographer. A longtime Sony user, Lim has amassed a carefully curated collection of Sony Alpha cameras, lenses and key accessories he needs in his kit to complete each job successfully. We caught up with him to learn more about the gear in his bag.

Cameras 

Sony Alpha 1: This is my primary camera body for 50mp stills and 8K video. I can shoot 4K 120fps for super slow mo video. I can also set a shutter speed to 1/32,000-sec., allowing me to use low F-stops in extremely bright light. Eye tracking during video capture is a must.

Sony Alpha 7 IV: A great second body that also takes amazing 33mp stills and 4K 60fps video for great slow mo footage. I love the swing out LCD display that allows me to shoot low or high angles in portrait orientation. Eye tracking during video capture is a must.

Sony ZV-E10: I use this primarily for video. A small body that shoots excellent 4k video. I place this on a tripod and use it as a second/third angle capture. Great to use with weddings or BTS footage.

Sony RX100 VII: Amazing pocket camera when you want to travel super light. I love the 24-200mm range and 4K video ability. Great for low light when going small and 1’ sensor image quality is superior to my mobile phone. Great for concerts, sports events, the zoo, street photography, etc.

Lenses

Sony 50mm f/1.2 G Master: This is my favorite lens. Perfect for portraits but I can also pull back and take wide angle establishing shots too. This lens will not distort the perspective of your subject. The shallow DOF at 1.2 gives me a signature look.

Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master: When I want to shoot wide I use this lens. I love to shoot at f/1.4 for portraits because it can give me a nice bokeh. Great for low light and street photography too. A very versatile lens.

Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master: I shoot mostly primes but this is a great back up to any of my lenses and when you only want to use one lens, this is my go-to. Great for street or landscape photography too.

Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master: A perfect lens when you need a lot of reach but need to shoot in low light or want a shallow DOF. I use it at weddings or events where I can not get close to my subjects.

Sony 10-18mm f/4: This is a wide angle crop sensor lens that I use on both my Sony crop sensor and full frame cameras. Very compact and versatile. Excellent street photography lens.

Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G: Love this lens for action sports. It is fairly lightweight and at a great price. Can be used for wedding ceremony imagery and video.

Accessories

Stella Pro Reflex S: A small, portable light that is both a video light and a strobe. Up to 9,000 lumens on contant light and 18,000 lumens as a strobe. Great for cinematic video footage or stills. Water resistant with a built-in umbrella mount.

33” Translucent Umbrella: Used primarily as a diffuser for the Stella Pro Reflex but can also act as a scrim and reflector. Use it as a regular umbrella on a rainy day.

Peak Design Quick Strap: All my cameras have Peak Design quick connects to take on and off a strap very easily.

Arca Swiss Mounts with Rings: I add these to the bottom of my camera for quick tripod use and the built in rings are used to clamp onto my dual holster camera strap to hold two camera bodies.

Waterproof SD Case: Holds up to 12 SD cards.

Business Cards: I always love to give out real business cards because I forget names, so a digital card is no good if a person can't remember your name.

Sensor Tape: Low residue tape to remove dust from my camera sensor if need be and also to mark misc items.

Advil: For those times I’m not 100% and need some help or under the weather.

Power Bars: Days can get long without eating so having a few snacks in your bag can take away the hangry moments.

Lens Caps: Always handy to keep an extra body and lens end cap. 
100W Power Supply: This can power my Stella Reflex, charge my phone, camera or laptop.

Dual Camera Strap: When I want to wear two camera bodies.
