Photojournalist and Sony Artisan David Burnett has been selected as a recipient of The White House News Photographers Association (WNPA) 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award. Burnett has covered the news for over seven decades, with much of his work appearing in major publications such as TIME and People Magazine. Burnett, who has been a member of the Sony Artisan Of Imagery program since 2019, has also covered many of the Summer Games and has photographed every American president since John F. Kennedy.
Burnett is also the co-founder of Contact Press Images, a longstanding New York-based photojournalism agency. Over the course of his storied career, he's earned a long list of professional awards and accolades, winning virtually every award in the field of magazine photojournalism. He has earned the Sprague Award for Lifetime Achievement from the National Press Photographers Association and American Photo magazine named Burnett one of the "100 Most Important People in Photography."
His expertise is sought out all over the world, having served three times on the jury of World Press Photo (Holland), and twice as the Chairman. He has also been a judge of the prestigious International Landscape Photography contest. His images have been exhibited across the globe, and he has four books published featuring his photography. Burnett continues to lead workshops while capturing the news, the people and what he calls the visual tempo of our age.
The WNPA 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award was created to honor the career and achievements of both still and video photographers, and will be added to Burnett's long list of accolades. He will be honored with the WNPA Award at the annual ‘Eyes of History’ gala on June 1, 2024, in Washington D.C.
