We are excited to announce The Creative Cornerstone as the newest recipient of a Sony Create Action Grant. The North Carolina-based nonprofit provides disadvantaged youth with media production skills to enhance their abilities, increase their critical thinking and provide them with an opportunity to an innovative career path. As winners of the grant, the organization will receive $50,000 in cash to continue and expand their work, a custom short film telling their story, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and collaboration and partnership with Sony.

The Creative Cornerstone offers a variety of workshops in photography, videography, audio tracking and recording, and poetry. Their programs equip youth with foundational skills in a professional working environment, helping them see a vital career path they may not have had exposure to due to social economic factors. Through The Creative Cornerstone's after school program, youth will learn how to use professional photography equipment and techniques for image capture and control, lighting techniques, creative direction, and image manipulation. Students will then have the ability to showcase what they have learned within their community during Creative Cornerstone’s annual digital arts showcase at the end of the program. The showcase will help to bring an awareness of the socio-economic disparities felt among the youth in the creative communities within Mecklenburg county.

Sony looks forward to working with The Creative Cornerstone and their goal to equip the youth to be great leaders who can build on their skills and have a more informed vision for their career paths.
