Pro cinematographer and YouTuber Jason Morris gives us a rundown of the cameras, from the FX6 to the Alpha 7R IV, lenses and accessories he uses for the simplest to the most elaborate videos.

Cameras

Sony FX6: My A-Camera is the Sony FX6 that lives in its own custom case. Having a cinema camera for my work is pivotal for my success. In-built variable ND filters, SDI output, DCI 4k, XLR input, multiple custom buttons and many more features help me create the best videos possible. The fast sensor readout gives brilliant rolling shutter performance and the super clean 4k image on a codec that edits beautifully on any computer I use.

Sony Alpha 7 IV: My B-Camera is the new Sony Alpha 7 IV. I have created two commercials with this camera so far and it impresses me every single time. Some of these commercials require photos for the EPK (electronic press kit), for which I also use this camera. Being a smaller camera, I am able to carry less gear to a shoot and be more efficient with my space and time. Having the 7K down sampled 4K video gives me more opportunity to use crop mode without image quality loss in video which can be very handy with prime lenses. The Alpha 7IV also has features like breathing compensation, focus mapping and object tracking which is very advantageous.

Lenses

Sony 24-105mm f/4 G: My main run-and-gun lens for the Sony FX6 in event videography is the 24-105mm f/4 G lens. It features OSS which pairs very well with the FX6 and covers a wide focal range when needing to recompose quickly.

Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master: This is my main lens for my primes. Giving me exceptional low light performance and bokeh quality this lens suits both the FX6 and Alpha 7 IV for my standard shots.

Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master: This is my portrait lens for when I require tighter composed shots. The compression and bokeh quality is incredible on this lens. The great thing about GM lenses is the accuracy of manual focus which I do a lot of when it comes to video. Having the MF/AF switch on the side makes the transition easier to change.

Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master: This is my go-to wide angle lens to capture my establishing shots. It is wide enough to get what I want in frame but not too wide where it shows distortion. Again, the f/1.4 aperture is super handy for low light situations and the 24mm still gives me nice separation from the background.

Being a videographer, I have many accessories and attachments on my camera but there are a few main ones that really help when I create videos including.
