When it comes to the advanced AI technology found in the new Sony Alpha 7R V, creative Sal D’Alia says it’s so impressive, it’s almost scary.

During his Halloween photo shoot, D’Alia couldn’t believe the way the new camera’s breakthroughs in subject detection really shined. It has next-generation Real-time Recognition AF, which means more accurate and broader subject recognition thanks to that new AI processing unit with deep learning. “For example, I was shooting a fake Skull for the Halloween shoot and the Eye-AF was automatically tracking the orbital bone of the fake skull!”

The AF system worked very well for him and the resulting images were nothing but sharp according to D’Alia. “Besides the resolution I loved the new four-axis LCD screen and the flexible RAWs,” he says. “It has incredible file flexibility and latitude,” he says. “I was able to manipulate the RAW files however I wanted and with the 60MP you have so many opportunities to have images within an image.”
